How long does it take to recover from the surgery?

While it is normal to experience discomfort for the first 5-7 days, the acute healing phase takes place in the first 24 to 48 hours after surgery. During this time your discomfort will be managed with pain medication such as Ibuprofen 800 mg and Extra Strength Tylenol. During the first week it is also completely normal to have swelling and bruising.

How often are more powerful pain medications necessary to manage pain?

Most patients do not require narcotic pain medication, however, we understand that everyone experiences pain differently. We engage in frequent conversation with patients after surgery, so if there is need for additional medication to manage recovery that can be discussed.

How much time will I need to take off work?

The average time we see patients take off work is 2-3 days depending on the nature of their occupation. Most of these surgeries take place toward the end of the week (Wednesday or Thursday) which can help minimize the total time away from work by utilizing the weekend.
